mastiff. They are very big, very strong, and very loyal to thier family. THey are protective and easily trained. A mastiff was probably the best dog I ever owned. As for thier strength they were bred to hunt lions so yeah they are strong

Police and other law enforcement official who have K-9 units mainly use German Shepherds. They sure can handle drug busts very awesome!

There are quite a few to chose from - german shepherds, rottweilers, dobermans, and on and on…However, there are many differences within the breed. If you are wanting a dog for protection, I would strongly advise you to find a club in your area who actively train dogs using Schutzhund methods. That type of training gives the dog super confidence, but also makes sure that the dog is under YOUR control at all times. They can also guide you as far as chosing a breed and then the right puppy from that breed! Good Luck!

The Swiss Mountain Dog and the Bernese Mountain Dog were bred to pull carts. They often pull carts weighing several hundred pounds in competition. I believe these are the most powerful dogs. That doesn’t necessarily mean they are the best fighters or the best watchdogs. Any dog can be trained to be a watchdog. You have to teach your dog to alert when his territory is being encroached. However, a watchdog that alerts, might not be able to protect and defend. Generally speaking, larger breeds are better suited for that, but they must be taught how to behave in those situations.

There are many types of dogs bred to perform many different tasks.

There are 2 different types of guarding involved:
1.Property
2.People

Certain dogs excel in one and not the other. For example, mastiff dogs are very effective in guarding property but not people.

Note that male dogs are betting as property guards and females are better for protecting people

In terms of protecting people and property, a good option is a doberman. ( Note that these dogs must be socialized alot and interact with their owners). These dogs are versitile guards( the only dog specifically bred to protect humans) and also have a very intimidating apperance.

As for your questions regarding size, the Great dane is the tallest dog and the St. Bernard is he heaviest dog but these dogs don’t have strong guarding tendencies.

So in summary, the best all purpose guard is a doberman.

-Cheers

either a watchdog or a german shepards

German Shepard or a Border Collie
Get them when they are young and start training them about 5 months old.
We have a Border Collie got her trained at 5 months. Now no one that she doesn’t know comes close to the front door. She even chased a coyote out of the yard.

The Doberman Pinschers are very intelligent, they are fearless with great stamina and tremendous strength!!! They should not be confined to the outdoors though. Definitely need socialization!!!

I have to agree with the Mastiff. Shepards are cool dogs and all, but depending on their genetics, they do have a tendency to freakout. Mastiffs are good family dogs. Big, strong, silent for the most part and very loyal to the family. It is said that if an intruder enters a house with a Mastiff on watch, the dog will pin the intruder to the floor until his master comes. They aren’t yappy either, which shepards can be when not held in check.

I have a Rottie. I think they are the best. He is very sweet - with us, but I dont have any doubt that he will defend us if need be. Also the look of a Rottie is very intimidating to a lot of people. When we walk ours, people will actually cross over to the other side of the street!

You are asking two diffrent questions..

The strongest dog is a ABPT or a Pitbull
They can pull HUGE amounts of weight, much more then their own body.

The best protector dog as far as alertness would probably be a German Shepherd Dog (GSD) or a Doberman. Both were used in herding and guarding.

If you have children or are planning on them I would go with a Doberman. I personally have a GSD in my family, and it’s only because thats what my fiance grew up with and loves, he wouldn’t be talked into a Doberman for any bribe *lol*

If you need a small dog, for apt life.. the best is a dachshund.. My dachshunds have excellent hearing and even alert me to people if they are in the back alley, which is outside and about 200 ft back from the house. They also have very deep chests, so the standards produce a “big dog” bark that most people are put off by because they sound like a much larger dog that means business.
