Only you can answer that question, you’ll know when the time is right but don’t do it if you have doubts, it wouldn’t be fair on the new pup.
I’m very sorry for your loss. It’s so hard to lose a dog, let alone put one down.
I think you should get another dog whenever you are ready. There isn’t a right or wrong time.
Think of it this way, your dog that you lost is giving a gift of a family to a new dog. You aren’t replacing her, you are honoring her by saving another dog!
Again, you have my deepest sympathy. I hope you find a new companion for your dog and your family soon.
Good luck.
Get the playmate. It will help you as well as the dog. Now if you didn’t have another dog, I’d have said get another dog when you are ready.
as soon as possible.
get a dog that looks completely opposite than your old dog so your not comparing him to your new dog.
shelter dogs are best pets.
“only ones who’ve truelly been hurt know how to love and care for someone other then themselves”
I am an animal lover and have lost several animals. I have a 2 dogs, one I have had since he was 7 weeks old and he is now 17 years old, and the other is only a year old. I recently took him to the veterinarian and through testing found out his liver is loosing cells and shutting down, but he is not bad enough to have put down yet. I am so sorry for you. If the time comes and it was needed my heart would be ripped out. My husband would not be able to take him and have him put down, so I would have to do it. People say just take him, leave and then come back. I want to comfort him and hold him through his last minutes. I worked at the vet for 7 years and I would have to go in the back and cry after I helped put one down and it was not even my animal. But with the exception of people who did not want anymore animals I have found it helps to get another animal. No they can not take that ones place but if you do want another one and the other dog is grieving then I suggest you get another dog. To be honest animals (dogs) can grieve themselves to death. I have always ended up with another before one passed away so I do not know your exact feelings, but that is my suggestion. Good luck and I am so terribly sorry for your lose.Sincerely, Stefanie
You should get another dog when you are ready. For some people that is almost immediately, for others it can take years. You have to do what is best for you, and only you can make that decision.
