Rosee asked:

A friend’s dog’s owners are going to be out of town for a week. The friend wants someone to take care of his dog.

How will the dog adapt in a strange home with another dog and a teenage kid? This will be during the hot summer. The dog would need to be caged inside the house. The family dog may not enjoy another dog in the house.

The other option is to leave the dog at his own home and have someone to tend to him several times during the day.

You could try and bring the dog over to your house to visit and see how he reacts to your family and dog. Some dogs love everyone and probably won’t mind being with you as long as you show them attention. He may even enjoy a playmate!

The second option isn’t all that bad either. The dog may get lonely but if he can’t get along with your dog than going with this option may be the safer choice.

Good Luck. :)

It depends on whether the dog is use to be being crated inside his own home - as well as on whether the other family’s dog and your friend’s dog get along well. If the dog is not use to being in a crate inside his own home (and/or if the other dog resents having him in his home) - and if your friend’s dog can be trusted in his own home *not* crated - and the person tending him several times a day will play with him and walk/exercise him to tire him out - he is most likely better off in his own home. But, your friend probably knows his dog best.

call a kennel to kennel the dog while your gone or take the dog over to the house that it will be staying at to make sure there isn’t a problem with the other dog while your gone
