We recently built a nice fenced area in the back yard for our dog to go potty in. We have a 3 year old boy that likes to play in the back yard but the dog leaves big land mines everywhere and is killing the grass with his *** spots. So we built the dog run for the dog to do his business but he absolutely will not go potty when he’s in there. What do we need to do to get him to go?!?!?!

When he goes potty, bring some of it into the dog run. Let your dog hang out in the dog run and sniff the potty, and eventually he will get the idea.
AT ALL COSTS THE DOG WILL AVOID GOING IN THE KENNEL AREA….THEY DONT GO WHERE THEY ARE CONFINED UNLESS HE IS LEFT IN THERE INDEFINITELY THEN OF COURSE HE WILL BUT ITS CRUEL……THEY DONT LIKE TO BE CONFINED NEAR IT…..SO WHILE ITS NICE TO HAVE….YOU HAVE TO WALK HIM OR GIVE HIM A BIG YARD TO……GO MAKE LAND MINES…..AND THEN CLEAN IT UP OR MOVE HIM TO ANOTHER AREA.
You may want to try to have a friend bring their dog over, and have it go in the run. Once the area is marked by another dog, this dog, if male, will do what it can to cover it up.
it will take persistance. how old is the dog? if it’s still young (even if it’s not) after it has eaten, give it a few minuites, then take it to the area and wait with it until it does it’s business. when it does, reward it with a treat or a game or even just a rub on the head and a ‘good dog’ praise. if it does go in the yard pick up the **** and take it to the area (the poop, not the dog). make sure that the area for it to do it’s business is a good distance away from the kennel.
