considering dogs have been giving birth in the wild for thousands of years, it’s doubtful that they NEED humans to help. but it’s cute that they helped anyway.
we cut the cord ourselves but the dog will do it on her own.

thats really immature. dogs need humans there to help, and if its the dog’s owner then the dog is probably a bit less stressed if the human is calm. plus the dog will trust those people who were present at the birth with the puppies; its a very strong and important bond between pet and human.
did you guys do the whole.. clamping and cutting the cord yourself or let the dog chew it off on her own? .. my yorkie is expecting in a week and I’m trying to see what to do. She’s only having one.

i never watched a dog give birth before O.o i seen cats since ive had alot of them. x3 i always was to exited to sleep cuz i love kittens x3grats on the puppys!

Puppies are born still inside the amniotic sac. The mom has to basically eat it off so they can start to breathe. That’s also why they lick, to stimulate breathing.
It takes the puppies awhile to dry off
